TWO suspected car thieves were yesterday lynched at Tumaini area in Ol Kalou constituency, Nyandarua County. Nyandarua North OCPD Benjamin Onsongo said the two had stolen a Toyota matatu from Nakuru when they were waylaid at a bump stretch in Tumaini on the Ndundori-Ol Kalou road.

“One of the suspects Peter Njoroge managed to escape the mob and was taken to Tumaini police station while the other two were caught and killed on the spot,” he said.

Onsongo said police officers responded quickly but the mob had killed the two suspects and burnt their bodies with old tyres. He said police officers engaged the mob in running battles during the incident.

“Our officers lobbed teargas canisters at the mob as it pelted stones at our officers but we could not save the suspects because they had already been killed,” he said.
