The National Transport and Safety Authority has reached out to owners of 15,000 logbooks to collect them from the agency. NTSA director general Francis Meja on Tuesday said the authority may be forced to introduce fines if the owners delay to get their documents.

“Nairobi leads with 8,763 uncollected logbooks followed by Mombasa with 5,998,” he said. Meja said some of the log books have been lying there for more than seven months.

Kisumu and Nyeri follow with 228 and 130 logbooks respectively. “Applicants should move with speed and pick their documents,” Meja said.

He said the transport regulator has attempted to contact the individuals via SMS and through the TIMS account.

The Transport Integrated Management System (TIMS) is used for registration and transfer of motor vehicle ownership.

Meja asked members of the public to access the agency’s services online. The new system has reduced the duration taken to get a logbook from 30 to 3 days.
