DCI impounds six posh cars smuggled into Kenya for tax evasion

Serious Crime Unit Detectives on Wednesday impounded six high-end cars that were stolen from their countries of origin and smuggled into Kenya, evading taxes.

The three Mercedes-Benzes and three Range Rovers were impounded by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation.

Investigations from Interpol established that one of the Range Rovers was stolen from the United Kingdom and a Mercedes Benz was stolen from a South African identified as Mrs. Tshegofasto Mabyane.

The cars will be handed to the International Criminal Police Organization for further processing.

Three other vehicles were processed as semi-trailers as a prelude to tax evasion while another Range Rover was registered using a Toyota Probox number plate.

The vehicles will now be handed to the National Transport and Safety Authority and Kenya Revenue Authority for further authentication.

The suspects involved in the car smuggling saga to be charged.

“No one will steal from one country and enjoy the sweat of others while in another country,” warned DCI.
