More than 200 boda boda riders in Mombasa County are set to undergo road safety training in new efforts to reduce road accidents.
Speaking during a funds drive in aid of Nyali boda boda riders, Mvita MP Abdulswamad Nassir said boda boda riders are the leading traffic offenders in the county forming the highest number of casualties, and this latest effort to train them will reduce the numbers significantly.
Statistics from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicate that most boda boda riders who are aged between 19 and 39 are reckless and not professionally trained.
The chairman of the boda boda operators in Nyali sub- county Samuel Ogutu says that the training will come in handy to some of his members who have no driving licenses.
He said the program, whose objective is to reduce road accidents, will involve all stakeholders including the county government of Mombasa.
