Matatu operators hike fares by Ksh10 for short distances due to 16% VAT on fuel

If you use public transport to get around, you will pay ten shillings more for your fare beginning 1st of September, as the 16% Value Added Tax on petroleum products takes effect. This is according to the Matatu Owners Association which says the new tax will push up operational costs, and that they have no choice but to pass on the added cost to you.
