A traffic police officer manning a road block at Mnarani in the outskirts of Kilifi town, Kilifi County was critically injured yesterday after he was knocked down by a speeding motorist along the busy Mombasa-Malindi highway.
The 6.00 pm accident caused a heavy traffic jam along the busy highway at the Kilifi bridge scene of accident as the injured officer was removed to Kilifi County Level 5 Hospital.
The officer, named Chrispus Wafula is alleged to have waved a motorist to stop when another motorist came from behind and knocked him down according to eye witnesses at the scene.
Kilifi County police commander Fredrick Ochieng who confirmed the accident said Wafula suffered head and leg injuries.
He said the probox vehicle registration number KBN146 D that caused the accident has been detained at Kilifi police station.
Hospital sources confirmed that the accident victim suffered a broken leg and multiple injuries on the head and revealed that he is responding well to drugs.
