The prototype of the SL was recently spied and as we near closer to its debut at the Detroit Auto Show in January, more information is coming to the fore, Motor and Sport publishing pictures of the SL’s body coupled with very interesting details. From the image released, it seems the all-new luxury roadster will be a familiar looking SL but with a boxy nose, as per other new models, and with the SLK’s retractable rigid roof aka the Magic Sky Control. An almost all-aluminum chassis, weighing in at 254kg, has enabled the SL roadster to be enlarged and simultaneously lightened, which will surely help with handling, fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. A new generation of engines, featuring direct injection and auto Stop/Start system, will consist of a 435hp twin-turbo 4.7-liter V8, V6, and perhaps V12. AMG will be in charge of the range-topping SL with the SL 63 AMG powered by the new 571hp 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8. Other features of note include the Magic Vision Control windshield wiper encompassing the washer fluid system and a new audio system.
