Bus ticketing now goes online

Passengers travelling from Nairobi to Mombasa or to Kisumu can now book their tickets online.

Under an agreement between Sakura Sanmic Investment and bus companies Mash and Queen, prospective travellers can make their reservations from the comfort of their office. Mash bus company plies the Nairobi-Mombasa and Nairobi to Kisumu routes.

Payments can be made through either M-Pesa or Zap. After authentication, the online ticket system will automatically generate a ticket and send it to the customer’s e-mail address.

Enter their details

Travellers will also be required enter their details as they appear on their national ID card. Sakura Sanmic Investments director James Odero said that bus companies involved in long distance travels can subscribe to this service. Dubbed emanamba, the system will not only give passengers the convenience they need, but also freedom of choice.

“The system will store information about who has travelled and to where for more than five years, and this will make it easy to identify accident victims,” Mr Odero said.

Emanamba is also expected to bring sanity into the transport sector, which experiences chaos especially during festive seasons.
