Subaru Advanced Tourer Concept to be Revealed
Subaru announce their latest hybrid concept is to be unveiled in Tokyo.
Ahead of its unveiling at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show at the end of the month, the first pictures and details of the Advanced Tourer Concept have been revealed. Subaru have refined and evolved the Hybrid Tourer Concept showcased in Tokyo two years ago, which may indicate the company’s intent on putting it into production. It is now powered by a 1.6-liter horizontally-opposed direct-injection turbocharged Boxer engine that works in tandem with an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.
Subaru claim the Advance Tourer Concept offers vastly improved efficiency and includes a full EV mode for zero-emissions driving. The hybrid also incorporates Subaru’s Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and symmetrical all-wheel drive system, which can be used even when in electric-only mode, while all four wheels regenerate electricity during deceleration.Subaru’s trademark EyeSight driver assist safety system is to be showcased on the vehicle, which ironically has a large monitor on the steering wheel that is destined to distract the driver as they access maps, television and the internet.
We look forward to hearing more about this much-anticipated hybrid and the Subaru BRZ sports coupe that is also set to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show on 30 November.
