Car dealer who conned magistrate to face more charges

A clearing and forwarding agent, who allegedly conned a Mombasa based magistrate, may have to face more charges over the matter. Prosecutor William Gacheru yesterday asked the court for more time to enable him get a report from a document examiner, after which more charges will be pressed against Joseph Musili.

Musili was charged that between November last year and May he stole Sh320,000 falsely pretended he was in a position to import a car. Yesterday, when the case came up before senior resident magistrate Michael Kizito, Gacheru applied for an adjournment to enable him receive the report, press more charges and substitute others.

The suspect is likely to face charges of forgery and uttering false documents, when the case resumes in October. Gacheru informed the court that the document in question has been forwarded to the document examiner, for its authenticity, after expressing concerns that the same could be a forgery.

The suspect who denied the charges a month ago, is out on a cash bail of Sh50,000. His pleas to bar the press from covering the case were thwarted by the magistrate, who wondered why he sought for the same. Musili, who was unrepresented, had complained that the complainant is a judicial officer, thus the much attention given to the case.
