The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned motorists in Mombasa to avoid the Mombasa – Lunga Lunga road near Mwangei which has been completely flooded following heavy rainfall on Thursday afternoon.
Motorist were advised to use the Kombani – Kwale – Kinango – Lunga – Lunga route.
“Further, KeNHA urges all motorists to exercise caution while plying the route and not to attempt to cross any sections of any road that may be overtopped by floods,” said KeNHA.
Earlier on Thursday, the Kenya Meteorological Department had warned that heavy rainfall is expected on Thursday 25th to Saturday, May 25 along the Coastal strip and offshores.
The weatherman said the rainfall is likely to be accompanied by strong winds and may cause flooding in low lying areas near the coastline and other water repositories.
Counties expected to be affected include Kwale, Kilifi, Mombasa and southern part of Tana River and Lamu.
Residents in all mentioned areas were advised to be on the look out for flash floods.
