Police narrowed down and arrested rogue matatu crew who allegedly killed a passenger after pushing him out of their speeding vehicle on Monday, September 30.
The Western Shuttle crew who ply the Kakamega-Kisumu route are in custody for the murder of a passenger whose identity was not revealed.
More details revealed that the heinous act was committed a few metres from the police station. The passenger died on the spot.
Citizen TV reported that Simon Oteng and Livingstone Indimuli were arrested on Tuesday, October 1 and are detained at Kakamega County Police Headquarters awaiting arraignment in court.
“The incident happened at around 4 pm as reported to us by concerned citizens. It is alleged that they pushed the passenger out of their speeding vehicle.
“Investigations are underway as we want to ascertain the allegations,” a senior police officer at the station confirmed.
Cases of rogue matatu crew narrowing down on unsuspecting passengers have been rampant in 2019.
In August 2019, the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) arrested a matatu crew who pushed a passenger out of a moving vehicle. The incident is reported to have happened on August 2, 2019, on Thika Road near Roysambu after the victim had a disagreement with the conductor. He died on the spot.
In July 2019, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) went after a Nairobi matatu Sacco whose crew was accused of killing a woman. Florence Wanjiru, 28,was hurled out of a Killeton Sacco matatu plying the Kileleshwa-Lavington route.
