– Three people died while 11 others were injured when a matatu lost control and rolled several times at Funyanata area in Marsabit county

– Area police boss regretted that the scene of accident on the newly tarmacked Marsabit-Moyale road was turning out to be a black spot, after two people were killed there two days earlier

A woman and two men died on Monday evening August 1, 2016 when a matatu they were travelling in rolled several times at Funyanata area along the Marsabit-Moyale road.

According to Marsabit county police commander Ben Kogo, one of the matatu’s rear tyres burst and caused the vehicle to roll several times, killing the three on the spot.

He said 11 others were rushed to Moyale Sub-County Hospital with injuries of varying degrees.

The matatu was headed to Bori from Moyale.

Its driver, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested to assist with investigations.

The police boss regretted that the scene of the accident on the newly tarmacked road was turning out to be a black spot, after two people were killed there two days earlier.

A speeding lorry reportedly hit an elderly woman who was crossing the road then lost control and rolled several times on Saturday, July 30.

The elderly woman and the lorry’s conductor died on the spot.

It is unfortunate that the area is turning out to be a black spot. We are appealing to motorists using the newly tarmacked Marsabit-Moyale road to avoid speeding and adhere to traffic rules. Traffic officers will continue cracking down on unroadworthy vehicles and prosecute errant drivers,” said Kogo
