Matatu Sacco owners have criticised the move by the government to acquire 32 Buses For Rapid Transport saying Kenya in not ready for the buses.
John Macharia, Chief Operations Officer Forward Travellers saying the move Kenyan road infrastructure is not ready for the new buses.
Macharia specifically stated that Eastlands roads are not ready for the buses due to the poor infrastructure.
“In Eastlands we only have Outering Road, but Outering Road does not have stages, even currently Matatu people we are finding it hard to operate on outering road because there are no stages,” said Macharia.
Kenya had planned to buy 64 Bus Rapid Transit but cancelled the order to 32 buses.
Transport CS James Macharia had earlier estimated the cost of each bus at Ksh. 25 Million pricing the 64 buses at 1.6 billion.
The buses are to be deployed on the already marked Thika Super Highway and other major roads within the city.
