A court in Kisumu has sentenced a matatu conductor to 30 years in prison for pushing a passenger out of a moving vehicle to his death.
Mr Roman Oduor Ogutu was found guilty of killing Abdallah Yunis after a quarrel over Sh10 balance in 1995.
A witness told the court that when the dispute heated up, the conductor said “huyu aruke kwa kichwa” and pushed the victim out of the door of the matatu.
Mr Yunis died on the spot.
While delivering the sentence, Justice Fred Ochieng termed the act as inhuman and unprofessional behaviour from the matatu crew.
“Pushing a passenger to his death was cruel and uncalled for. This impunity orchestrated by the matatu crew must stop,” he ruled.
