A cameraman died after he was hit by a racing car at Jamhuri Park racetrack during the sixth round of the Kenya national autocross championship on Saturday.
Anthony Ndung’u Macharia was pronounced dead at the Karen Hospital ICU where he had been rushed for treatement following the afternoon incident.
He succumbed to the injuries he sustained while attempting to save his equipment - a camera on a tripod - from being run over by one of the cars in the competition.
Stewards called off the event moments after the first heat; Robert Gow’s car clipped a bank on a straight during the official heat runs and went off into the path of the cameraman.
