Drivers and navigators will leave nothing to chance during the second round of the KCB Kenya National Rally Championships ( KNRC) 2014 in Kiambu this weekend. Organisers Rallye Sports Club have drawn up the route map and itinerary for the KCB Home Loan Kiambu Rally on Saturday and Sunday. The rally will be flagged off by Kiambu Governor William Kabogo on Saturday at noon. The rally restarts on Sunday after an overnight halt at Migaa which will host the ceremonial finish in the afternoon. After a rigorous route survey on wet conditions, Clerk of Course George Mwangi has assured all competitors that the route is passable. Mwangi said rally headquarters will be located at Migaa Estate.
“Here (Migaa) there are a lot of spectators expected to grace the terrain. The Migaa stage is an 8km run. The plan is to run this spectator stage thrice because no one will be allowed in others stages which are located on private property,” said Mwangi. “The Rallies Commission has given us a special dispensation to run Migaa thrice because of confining spectators to one area. Basically the rules stipulate that no stage shall be run more than twice,” he added. The service park, scrutineering and parc ferme will be at Migaa.
“The route is technical and exciting. There will be four competitive sections at Cianda, Mboi Kamiti, Tatu City and Miga,” said Mwangi. unveil new cars Two-time champion Alastair Cavenagh is expected to renew his rivalry with series leader Baldev Singh Chager, champion Carl Tundo and Ian Duncan. Cavenagh, who has not rallied this season, will alongside his longstanding race adversary Tundo, unveil the new Proton ST2000 machine.
Duncan will be attempting to regain lost ground after failing to finish in Malindi and Kiambu. The Division Two battle pits leader Alisdair Keith (115pts) against Mahesh Halai (90pts), Tejveer Rai 80 and Anwar Pandya. Keith won the Divsion Two class in Malindi while Rai won it in Machakos. But Keith will be attempting to kill two birds with one stone as he is also challenging for the Group S title which he leads in his Subaru GC8. Rai hopes to the secure a top 10 in Kiambu to intensify his fight against Keith. Don Smith leads the KNRC Division Three front and is expected to shine alongside his partner Bob Kaugi in a Subaru N14. The Classic Car Cup points tussle will see the likes of Ramesh Vishram hoping for the best in his Ford Escort. The Classic Cup drivers are yet to score points, since they have not been able to raise the quorum of three entries to enable them do so.
Fireworks are expected in the Two Wheel Drive Class. Machakos winner Leonardo Varese renews his rivalry with champion Dennis Mwenda, Gurmit Thethy and 2012 champion and leader Nadeem Kana from Mombasa.
