Last leg of the KCB Rally getting flagged off today in Kilifi

Notwithstanding the soaring coast temperatures, Kilifi town was abuzz with activity yesterday as preparations for today’s KCB Rally hit a crescendo.The event which counts towards the last round of the eight-leg Kenya National Rally Championship 2013 will be flagged-off today outside the KCB Branch by Kilifi Governor Amason Jefwa Kingi.

Yesterday was the moment all and sundry were busy putting final touches to preparations. Drivers and navigators went through a rigorous reconnaissance in Ganze and Bamba regions while team managers and mechanics were at Concord Motors in Kilifi town for the final checks (scrutineering).

Gurvir Bhabra, one of the technical officials of the Kilifi Rally had a hectic session just to ensure the safety and requisite aspects conformed with National Competition Rules.

Reconnaissance took place from 06:00 to 18:00 hours yesterday with only two passages per crew allowed per car. Scrutineering and Documentation also took place at Concord Motors.

Meanwhile, the hills around Bamba and Ganze will today reverberate with the roar of turbo-charged cars as action gets underway this morning. There has been a talk in the Kilifi County that one of the rally youngsters might pull a surprise after three KNRC’s elite drivers skipped the Mombasa Motor Club (MMC) organised event.

Two-time former Kenya champion Alastair Cavenagh, multiple KNRC champion Carl “Flash” Tundo and veteran Azar Anwar are among the notable absentees at the KCB Kilifi Rally. Amongst the veterans in Kilifi are six time Kenyan champion Ian Duncan who is being navigated by Amaar Slatch in a Mitsubishi Evo9.

The youngsters knocking on the heels of the veterans include Manvir Singh Baryan (Subaru N16), Rajbir Rai (EvoX), Peter Horsey in  the “Moto Moto” Datsun pickup, his bother Alex Horsey in an EvoX and Team Kobos’ Jassi Chatthe who finished second also in a Mitsubishi EvoX contrary to all expectations. - See more at: http://www.the-star.co.ke/news/article-142084/kilifi-set-reverberate-turbo-charged-car-noise#sthash.k9caqtYa.dpuf
