The Toyota GT86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ were born to race-on a smooth surface, not dirt roads. While Subaru doesn’t need the BRZ to take part in World Rally duties (it has the WRX for that), Toyota apparently feels the need to adapt the GT86 for that very purpose. That’s why today Toyota Motorsport GmbH has revealed the GT86 CS-R3 rally car. TMG claims it’s been built to R3 regulations and will be available to private competitors for the 2015 rally season.
Equipped with a six-speed sequential gearbox, limited slip differential, modified engine, adapted brakes and other upgrades, the GT86 CS-R3 is eligible for all FIA-sanctioned rallies, up to and including the World Rally Championship. Unlike the AWD Subaru WRX, the GT86 CS-R3 will keep its rear-wheel-drive setup. No other spec details are available just yet, but TMG promises to reveal additional info in the coming months.
