The Peugeot 3008 is the most advanced car to be assembled in Kenya
The Peugeot 3008 is the latest car to be locally assembled. The President and the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, took a ride in the newly assembled Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) at Statehouse during the unveiling.
Speaking during the unveiling the President said, “This policy directive is intended to promote our agenda on manufacturing, creating good jobs for our people, and enhancing technology transfer to our country.” President Kenyatta also reiterated his call on all state entities to buy and use locally assembled vehicles and spare parts.
As we aspire to buy more cars assembled locally, here are a few important things to know about the 3008.
Car of the year (CotY) 2017
The Peugeot 3008 SUV was named 2017 Car of the Year (CotY) in Geneva in March 2017. The judging panel that comprised 50 European journalists spoke to its style, interior design and performance. The crown this year went to the Jaguar I-Pace at the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show.
Innovative Technology
The 3008 is one of the most technologically advanced vehicles assembled in Kenya. The car’s PureTech control engines and EAT6 automatic gearbox make it the most efficient SUV in its class. During its unveiling, the President noted that the Peugeot 3008 is a high-performance vehicle with great fuel consumption and lowest emission in its class.
Futuristic Interior
Unlike most of its older models, the 3008 has a futuristic look and feel that can mostly be attributed to its Peugeot i-Cockpit. This means a well-designed more intuitive technologically advanced interior. “The interior design, with the nice-looking dashboard, configurable 12.3-inch HR digital display, 8.0-inch top centre touch screen, console entirely oriented to the driver and the row of toggle switches, is among the main assets of the new 3008,” said the CotY jurors.
Comfort
Not only does the 3008 look good with its sleek modern design, but it also offers a comfortable ride to the drivers and the passengers. The seats trimmed in leather and fabric come with a multi-massage function as well as an option to make them heated.
The assembling of Peugeot 3008 SUV commenced in September 2017 and two additional models, the Peugeot 2008 SUV and Peugeot 308SW, are set to commence in April and September 2019. By the end of this year, the PSA Groupe is expected to assemble at least 1,000 vehicles in Kenya, up from the current 480 vehicles.
