Matatu owners to soon monitor vehicles in real time

Matatu owners would soon be able to monitor activities of the vehicles in real time thanks to a new integrated data management system dubbed Mobitill.

According to Data Integrated CEO, Mary Mwangi, the solution would enhance revenue for matatu owners while protecting passengers from unauthorized fare hikes.

Public Service Vehicles come in handy for a huge population of Kenyans who cannot afford private means.

For this reason, most Kenyans across the country depend on PSVs as their sole means of transport  Nonetheless, Data Integrated CEO, Mary Mwangi says various challenges such as unplanned schedules at different termini, cash transactions between passengers, operators and Matatu Saccos’ managers has crippled operations in the industry.

City Shuttle Company CEO, Martin Kiragu, on the other hand has lauded the system as a game changer given that passengers will be able to get value for their money whenever they use public transport.

ICT experts together with players in the PSV sector want the government and county governments to leverage on technological to solve challenges that both operators and passengers face within the public transport sector.

The PSV sub-sector, especially in Nairobi, has suffered policy and regulations effects where the county regimes have tried to streamline it through addressing the notorious congestion in the CBD at the expense of the  commuters who are left to receive the short end of the stick.
