By LABAN WANAMBISINAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 12 – The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the operating license for Modern Coast buses following an early Thursday morning head on collusion involving two of their buses that claimed at least 7 lives.

The agency, in a statement on Thursday, directed the National Police Service to impound any of their vehicles found to be operating contrary to the suspension.

“Following the early Thursday morning crash involving two of their buses, the Authority has with immediate effect suspended the Company’s operator’s licence and initiated a thorough investigation into its safety standards and operations,” the statement read.

NTSA Director-General George Njao said the agency had also initiated a thorough investigation into the safety standards and operations  of Modern Coast even as he confirmed that the company’s access to the NTSA portal had been deactivated to limit any activities on their 88 vehicles until the probe is concluded.

The accident occurred near Salama Market when the two buses headed in opposite directions collided at around 2 am.

One bus was headed to Nairobi from Malaba while the other was from Nairobi going to Mombasa.
