A US Marine has been arraigned in court for causing public disturbance and insulting police officers in Nairobi.

Appearing before a Nairobi court, Kennedy Okemwa, 41, was charged with causing a public disturbance.

Okemwa is accused of creating a disturbance at Makongeni Police Station, where he was detained following his misconduct towards traffic officers along Nairobi’s Jogoo Road.

Police said the military officer failed to fasten a safety belt on his way to Nairobi CBD when his car was flagged down by officers along Jogoo road.

Okemwa, an American citizen, also refused to obey the officers’ order of belting up.

He instead turned violent and insulted the traffic cops, forcing them to arrest and lock him up at Makongeni Police Station.

While in police cells, the accused allegedly continued shouting and threatening to break and destroy a dwelling house belonging to stationed officers if he was not released.

Okemwa has denied the charges and has been freed on a cash bail of Sh20,000.

His case will be heard on July 22nd, 2019.
