Five people travelling from a national repentance prayer in Kericho died in separate road accidents. Eighty other victims are admitted in various hospitals in Kericho. The prayers had been called by self-proclaimed Prophet David Owour. The prayer meeting was held at Kericho Teachers Training College Sports Grounds.
In the first accident, three women were hit by a bus as they were crossing the Kericho-Nakuru highway after alighting a matatu. One of the wmen died on the spot while the others succumbed to injuries at the Kericho District Hospital.
In the second accident, a bus hired to transport some of the worshipers lost control and rolled several times. Two people were killed. The accident occurred at Kapkawa village near Kaitui market, about 30km from Kericho. Kericho OCPD Clement Gatogo confirmed the incident. He urged drivers to be careful on the road.
