We have all taken a look at the different recommended maintenance intervals that are put forth for our vehicles and try to gauge how realistic they are. While some people believe that they need to go in for an oil change every 3,000 miles, others try to push the limits to see how far they can go. There are plenty of different car care situations that have these recommended maintenance intervals, and plenty of different recommendations for those intervals. The more that you understand about these intervals and their importance, the more you can gauge the frequency required.
Previous Testing
There is a simple reason behind all of the different recommended maintenance intervals that you find: companies want you to be happy with your vehicle. They want your vehicle to run as you expect it to because they want to stay in your good favor and give you a car that works. The different intervals that they provide have been backed by an incredible amount of testing that had this one simple goal in mind. The companies know how long different parts can operate for, and create the intervals after tests that worked to test those limits.
Gas Mileage
People are constantly looking for the lowest gas prices, and are looking to have the best gas mileage possible. These recommended maintenance intervals will help your car to work more efficiently, which leads to better gas mileage for you and your car.
Keeping the Parts Working
There are certain aspects of your car that you simply fail to think about on a regular basis. Think about it: are you sure that your turn signals are working properly? Do you know if your brake lights are actually operational? These are all things that are checked when you check on other recommended maintenance intervals; a small perk that helps to keep your entire car in check.
Better Safe than Sorry
There are some intervals that may seem a bit extreme. While oil-change companies may look to get you in every 3,000 miles, others may tell you that you can go 7,000 miles. It is better to be safe than sorry; take these numbers into consideration and go in when you feel comfortable. Taking these proactive actions with your vehicle will help it to run smoothly and efficiently.
It is important for all to think about recommended maintenance intervals in different ways; while an oil change may change your oil, it also helps you to check your turn lights and brake lights. Thinking about these intervals in their broader context will help you to understand what you have to gain from each interval, and help you to understand how frequent the maintenance should be. In the end, you will understand exactly what you need to do to keep your car running as smoothly as possible.
