Boda-boda riders in Kisumu

Boda-boda operators from Kisumu County have every reason to smile after Governor Jack Ranguma sponsored 95 of them on a learning trip to Rwanda.

They will be accompanied by several county officials and are expected to learn more on how to improve the boda-boda business in the county.

The five-day trip has elicited mixed reactions from a section of politicians who have faulted the governor for misusing public funds.

East Seme MCA Aggrey Ogosi termed the trip inessential and accused Ranguma of dragging his feet in ensuring that necessary measures are put in place to ensure existing county transport rules are adhered to.

In his defence, Governor Ranguma said that the boda-boda business is one of the economic pillars in Kisumu County as it has created many employment opportunities for the youth.

He further stated that his administration is committed to ensuring that sanity is brought to the sector and hopes the riders will apply the best practices that they will learn in Rwanda.

The trip comes a few months after another where Kisumu County MCAs travelled to Mombasa to benchmark on strategies used to manage the boda-boda sector.
