Three carjackers were yesterday caught by police in action in Nyahururu town. Nyandarua OCPD Jasper Ombati said the arrested three men who are in their 30s had targetted a taxi car. He said the vehicle was pursued by other taxi drivers who caught up with it at a petrol station. The three had a rope, a hammer and a knife. On interrogation, the suspected carjackers said they planned to strangle the driver with the rope before taking the car. They said there was a ready buyer for it.
The three said that they are hired by wealthy people in Nairobi who buy stolen vehicles and kill drivers in the course of their stealing mission. They added they have accomplices in Gilgil town where investigations been extended to. The suspects will be charged with attempting to commit a felony. Another taxi driver Paul Thimba was stabbed to death by unknown people in the same area a few days ago.
