University Students Block Roads

University of Nairobi students went on the rampage on Monday night, blocking sections of Uhuru highway and University Way to protest power outage at the institution.

The students stopped vehicles along the roads to demonstrate against what they said had become a norm in the country’s best rated university.

Some of the protesting students set up roadblocks and extorted money from drivers.

The institution was twice plunged into darkness last week and the students are frustrated the blackouts are inconveniencing their study.

“We are about to commence out CAT exams and students need ample time to study. The frequent power failures seriously inconvenience most of us,” said a student.

The University Way was later cleared after power resumed and the students returned to their hostels.
