Police in Kitui have introduced stringent measures to prevent boda boda operators from breaking traffic rules.
Boda boda riders must have valid driving licenses and put on helmets and reflector jackets. They should also report their colleagues who flout traffic rules.
A forum between boda boda operators and the police on Tuesday formulated these measures to restore sanity on the roads during the festive season.
The forum was organised by Kitui OCPD Muchangi Kioi and the Kitui Traffic Base Commander Rashid Juma. Kioi said boda boda operators will not be allowed to operate late into the night.
“We want to be partners in the business and will appreciate if you could report to us passengers you suspect of criminal intentions,” said Kioi.
Juma said the only way operators can evade hefty fines is by adhering to traffic rules.
