A police officer was knocked down and killed by a speeding personal car along the Nairobi- Nakuru highway. The officer based at Njabini police station died on the spot following the accident at Fly Over trading centre.

Incidentally, the officer was on his way back to job after his annual leave when the late evening accident occurred. According to a witness, the officer had alighted from a matatu and was retrieving his luggage when a vehicle heading to Nairobi from Naivasha hit him.

“The driver was retrieving his bag from the rear of the matatu when the fast speeding car lost control and hit him and he died on the spot,” said the witness. Kinangop OCPD Chome Yawa confirmed the incident saying that the police constable was his driver.

The police boss said that they were holding the both drivers noting that no one was injured during the incident.

“The mangled wrecks have been towed to Magumu police post and the body transferred to Naivasha district hospital mortuary,” he said on phone. And a few kilometres away two minors were knocked by speeding car in Kinungi trading centre and left for the dead.

The two boys were rushed to Naivasha district hospital nursing head injuries and their condition was said to be serious but stable. According to a witness Rogers Kariuki from St John Ambulance the minors were walking along the road when the vehicle heading towards Nairobi hit them.

Kariuki said that the driver of the ill-fated motor vehicle tried to escape but he was nabbed by members of the public. “The two minors are admitted in hospital and we are calling on the government to erect speed bumps or a footbridge on this section of the road,” he said.

Following the incident residents blocked the road protesting an increase in the number of accidents on the section of the road. Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok confirmed the incident saying that the driver had recorded statement.
