Carjackers Kill a Woman in Embakasi Bound Matatu

A female passenger was Thursday night shot dead while a second man was injured in a carjacking incident along Likoni Road in Nairobi.

The middle aged woman was hit in the head twice and died instantly after she argued with gunmen who had carjacked a matatu at about 11 pm.

The bus was headed for Embakasi area with 31 passengers when six of them turned out to be thugs and struck at Nyayo Stadium and commandeered it towards Likoni Road.

Police said the second victim was shot and wounded in the leg in the confrontation but he is in hospital in a stable condition. Nairobi County police boss Benson Kibue said the gang went ahead and robbed the passengers of their cash and valuables before they abandoned them In the area and escaped.

Kibue urged passengers to always cooperate with thugs whenever such an attack occurs. “It is important for them to cooperate for their safety.” This is the second woman to be shot dead in such an attack in Nairobi in two months.

Police have stepped up campaigns to address the crime but it is still growing. Meanwhile, four people died in separate incidents in Nairobi. Kibue said they are investigating the deaths after the bodies were discovered.

The first body was found in Evergreen estate another one in a house in Kilimani and Dandora. Police said another body of a bodaboda rider was found on the roadside in Ngong town.
