Nakuru accidents due to speeding

NAKURU Traffic boss yesterday attributed the 75 percentage of the accidents caused by the matatus within the town to defective speed governors. Speaking to press, Solomon Wamae said most of the drivers use mobilised speed governors switches which they fix during the traffic crackdowns and defix after.

However he noted that the rate of the accidents within the town has reduced much in the past three weeks due to stakeholders awareness and regular traffic crackdowns. “For the past three weeks road carnage has greatly reduced because we have encouraged extensive traffic rules awareness among the stakeholders and the public service entrepreneurs. But the 75% of the accidents by the matatu drivers result from the defective speed governors,” Wamae said.

He said the traffic department is strictly enforcing the rule of drivers and conductors wearing uniforms and owning a license. The Base Traffic Commander cited the obstruction of the traffic rules by the government officials as improper and unwarranted emphasizing that nobody is above the law. “I have already charged four officials from the government parastatals who voluntarily caused traffic obstruction in the supermarkets and the petrol stations. Nobody is above the law. Traffic rules must be followed by everybody,” stated Wamae. Wamaestated that impromptu traffic crackdown had contributed to the adherence of the traffic rules by the public service operators
